Life With Social Media

Zero without it, is how I would start.

I don’t use twitter unlike the guy in the cartoon. I however am quite active on FaceBook and WhatsApp.  These two are enough to give me sufficient activity to keep me out of mischief. It has now come to that stage where I wonder how I lived without these two tools and also the facilitator that makes it possible, the smartphone!

Shackman had suggested the topic for this week’s LBC Friday post. You can see what the other writers of the LBC have to say in their respective blogs.  Maria, Pravin and Shackman.

  1. Hmm – I have never heard of WhatsApp – I will have to check it out. Like you, I hang out a bit on Facebook and I suppose our blogs can be considered social media.

    • Even when I don’t like being on WhatsApp groups, it automatically includes you if someone starts a group. You can get out of the group only subsequently and it always leaves a bad taste in the group when one does that. I try and limit my own postings on it to the bare minimum but you will be surprised by the number of posts that I am forced to read everyday. I do catch your posts on Facebook.

  2. I prefer blogging. 🙂

I enjoy Facebook for all sorts of reasons, but in the end like Jean I still prefer blogging. You can write at length about something and get very perceptive comments in return.

My post is only gone up now. I don’t know what I could say about social media that hasn’t already been said, so I wrote a very different type of post.

Yeah, don’t see you on Twitter anymore….

I don’t seem to be very adventurous in social media.
it seems that people either love it or hate it.
I am addicted enough these days just reading articles and blogs on this thing! 😀

So I sort of agree with the cartoon: Tweeting and Facebooking and Blogging aren’t actually doing anything.

I haven’t cared to switch to a smart phone yet as am quite happy with my cell. Opened FB and Linked In years ago — posted little info — became disillusioned with Zuckerberg’s manipulating for FB — decided I was no longer interesting in networking, so ceased to use either one. Not particularly interested in Twittering as I might have been at a different stage in my life, or if my activities were different. Blogging it is for me but spend more time on it than I think best.

  9. I find f/b great – I’ve long lost friends (many around the world), family (worldwide/local), friends (local), friends (never met, similar interests), organisations that I’m either active in or not, a few closed groups and about to make a secret group for my own clan (where I’m the head honcho because my elderly sister doesn’t do the Net)…

Photos, interesting links, other peoples creativity and so forth…

I also read a number of blogs, but don’t always comment…watch uTube doco’s from time to time, listen to music

Right now I’m listening to a short podcast daily that usually is under 10mins of my time, and it’s inspiration ++ from a business sense of the word.

Of course, if I want to know something – Google finds me some extraordinary extras…

THEN: I do have a life, that causes me to make things with my hands…but of doing things out of the house, that is a commitment – not many, taking a break from being a social butterfly in the voluntary world…

    Hi Rummy,

I am not much of a Social Media user (if we exclude Blogger, of course) due to lack of patience and time, I confess lol.

  11. I’m actually considering a facebook break – it’s felt oppressive lately. It’s the only other social media thing I do besides blogging and its mostly to keep up with family and old friends.

I cannot tell a lie…I am totally plugged in. I have a couple of twitter accounts but (I shouldn’t admit) only tweet when I publish on my blogs or get het up about something to the point that I must go public. On Facebook I keep up with much of my family although the youngest generation has abandoned FB for Instagram and Snapchat. I have an Instagram account but am pretty quiet there, too. I could be known as a lurker. I watch but don’t post much. I spend an inordinate amount of time on some electronic device or other.
