The Rough And The Smooth.

It is fitting that this landmark post is published as part of our Loose Bloggers’ Consortium exercise where a group of bloggers write on the same topic every Friday. This is one activity, or shall we say, discipline has been part of the motivation that has kept me blogging regularly, others being some very inspiring bloggers and commentators who comment here regularly.

This is my 2000th blog post.

pastor

A pastor had a wife and 12 children and needed to move as his rental agreement was coming to an end for the home where he lived.  He was having difficulty in finding a new home. When he said he had 12 children, no one would rent a home to him because they knew that the children would destroy the home. He could not say that he had no children, he could not lie. After all, pastors cannot and do not lie. So he gave up looking for a large home and moved into the small rectory that the church provided him.

Life is rough, for honest pastors.

lawyer

A lawyer had a wife and 12 children and needed to move as his rental agreement was coming to an end for the home where he lived. He was having difficulty in finding a new home. When he said he had 12 children, no one would rent a home to him because they knew that the children would destroy the home. He could not say that he had no children. He could not lie, after all, lawyers cannot and do not lie! So, he had an idea. He sent his wife for a walk to the cemetery with 11 children. He took the remaining one with him to see homes with the Real Estate Agent. He liked one of the homes and the agent asked : “How many children do you have ?” He answered : “12 children”. The agent asked “Where are the others? The lawyer answered, with a sad look, “They are in the cemetery with their mother”. And that’s the way he was able to rent a home for his family without lying.

MORAL : It is not necessary to lie, one only has to choose the right words. Lawyers don’t lie… they are creative… They are smooth.

This topic was suggested by Maria the gaelikaa, for the weekly Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium where currently eight of us write on the same topic every Friday.  I hope that you enjoyed my contribution to that effort.  The seven other bloggers who write regularly are, in alphabetical order,  AshokgaelikaaLin, Maxi, PadmumShackman and The Old Fossil. Do drop in on their blogs and see what their take is on this week’s topic. Since some of them may post late, or not at all this week, do give some allowance for that too!

Indeed, it was a great story. Although I was under the impression that lawyers never tell the truth. I won’t make that mistake again.

2000 congrats for your energy and your writing abilities. It’s tough to write, and even moreso to write continously and convince others to also do so. This is a major accomplishment. Hoping for many more in the future.

Just a quick note on your rough and smooth:
while in his parsonage, the honest pastor met someone who saw how correctly he took care of his children and the house, believed in his work, and offered him a larger place. Wait and trust in the lord. The lawyer by his trick made the community, the neighbors, and his landlord angry, and when he needed help, no one came.

Congratulations on the 2000th post! What an accomplishment. It’s even more so because, as tammy j has said, your posts are quality. However, as the wife of an attorney who is probably THE most ethical person you have ever met, I’m not so taken with yet-another joke at the expense of attorneys. I’m not offended. Just sighing.

    • Linda, I have two barrister nephews in the UK who simply cannot be anything else but ethical and two mentee lawyers in India one an activist and the other deeply into spiritualism. But stories will be stories like so many about salesmen, which I was before I retired. And the lawyer was not being unethical!

  9. Maxi says:

Congratulations! 2000th post, you put in a lot of time and that’s no lie. The attorney was misleading, kinda lied by omission.
