Discovery.

As most of my readers know, me left hip joint has been replaced three times and the right one twice. The right one will sooner than later need a revision as it has already lasted twelve years.

I need to keep my weight down and at the same time ensure that whatever exercise or activity that I undertake is either no or low impact on the hip joints so that the left one does not need to be revised again due to wear and tear and the right one too lasts till I pop off, after the third revision.

My body naturally tends to put on weight, particularly when I am not smoking, and I am not now. I have eliminated all medical possibilities like defective thyroid etc to ensure that all that I need to do is to judiciously manage what I eat and combine it with some exercise that will not put pressure on the hip joints. Walking as an exercise that I was indulging in will only speed up the process of the wear and tear of the right hip prosthesis and so, I have been advised to find an alternative.

After much research, and in consultation with experienced physiotherapists I follow a set of yoga exercises to stay fit and nimble but this is not enough to take off the excess weight that I carry and keep it away. Again in consultation with physiotherapists, one exercising machine was identified and I got my surgeon’s approval to use the machine. On investigation I found that I could use the machine in any gymnasium close to home but could also buy the machine at a cost that would be just equal to two months charges for the use of the gymnasium.

This is the machine.

It offers the following features:
Heavy duty Bike.

· Pedal, Step, Run & Rowing
· 5 Function display computer showing time, speed, Distance & Calories.
· Gives full body work out in just 20 minutes.
· Micro tension Controller.
· Adjustable seat.

I bought the machine and it has been installed in my bedroom in a safe place where I won’t accidentally bump into it and I started to use it on Tuesday evening.

I have not been able to get any where near twenty minutes which is the goal, but in the six sessions that I have had on it, I have been able to reach ten minute work outs with a break after five minutes of fairly vigorous working out.

What however has happened is that in the process, I have discovered some muscles in my body that I did not know existed earlier. I am told that the soreness that I now experience will go away with regular exercising and that I just have to keep at it.

Before I am asked, I weighed myself before I started using the exerciser. I weighed 100 Kgs. The goal is to reach and stay at 80 Kgs. I shall keep my readers posted on the progress I make.

The Ring Bearer Lets Me Down.

tolkeing ring

My friend and ring bearer Conrad has gone and done the unimaginable. He has lost the ring on which so much depended of my future. It is now in such hands that I doubt very much that he will be able to recover it again.

You can see the immediate fall out with my betrothed swearing off marriage for ever. Okay, I can understand the stranger speaking French in Paris failing and an Englishman failing and succeeding with an American, but I had high hopes, what being an Indian, and the original version at that, who could speak reasonably good English, who can lay claims to a home very near the Marylebone Registry Office. I had also assumed that the betrothal will last for ever what with Conrad assuring the safe keeping of the ring and promising to produce it at need.

Now, all hope is lost and I am devastated. The only thing that can undevastate me is for my betrothed to agree to be satisfied with a Mangalsutra.

To Tuck Or Not To Tuck.

This is a common sight now a days.
shahrukh-khan-10
Not just Shah Rukh Khan, but even the aad aadmi looks like this:

I simply cannot wear a shirt which has not been tucked in. I do wear safari shirts which are not tucked in.
sarari shirt

I do believe that the normal shirt deserves to be tucked in. The power of brain washing I guess.

Or is there something more sinister at work?

Male Insecurity.

I recently read a fascinating article on male insecurity to which I will take my readers after they read this post about female insecurity.

One of The problems that needed periodic attention during my traveling days was a couple of corns on my toes that would not go, no matter what kind of shoes I bought. I had reconciled myself to a life time of going to a pedicurist, aka chiropodist regularly. I can tell you they were my guardian angels for many years.

The problem disappeared after I had settled down to activities that did not need long hours spent in airplanes and airports wearing shoes. I have not had a corn bothering me since 1998.

I now go to pedicurists to get my nails clipped and to get a foot massage and those experiences are much cherished outings too.

I digress. I seriously considered going into practice as a pedicurist after retirement as I thought that it was a service that will be much appreciated in and around the suburbs where I lived from where people had to commute to the city to get to the only two pedicurists in town. My readers must be cautioned that those days the ubiquitous Beauty Parlours and unisex saloons that exist now did not exist to the same degree as they do now and I thought that it is a nice niche to get into.

And this is when the female insecurity cropped up. My late wife and love of my life put her foot down and said nothing doing. Her argument was that I would get female clients and that was inviting trouble spelt with a capital T. She had no problems however with my going to a female pedicurist to get my nails clipped!

So, this article sent me on that little story from my eventful life.
