My regular readers will remember that a significant part of my daily routine was my daily evening visits to our neighbourhood park. After I was advised to stop walking as an exercise and use an excercycle instead, in April, I had stopped going there. I use this monster which is kept in my bedroom.
Yesterday morning, I was sitting in our verandah and reading a magazine when a passing acquaintance stopped by and jokingly said that he was happy to see me alive. The joke was because he had not seen in me in the park since April and recently two mutual acquaintances and regular visitors to the park had died as had my nephew just last week.
So, I readily agreed to visit the park with my daughter in law yesterday evening when the skies had cleared and the sun was out. It was a momentous visit with many old friends expressing relief at seeing me alive and with a daughter in law to add to the occasion. After about an hour the clouds gathered and it looked as though it would rain and we came back home, escaping a shower by just a few minutes.
I think that I will resume going back at a gentle amble to the park in the evenings whenever there is a lull in the monsoon. The change did me good. And my park friends can rest assured that I have not kicked the bucket.
Yes, Ramana, it’s good to be missed (not in action, but inaction). Indeed, going for a little amble round the park every so often is good for the soul. After all, how many people do you meet in passing sitting on that beast in your bedroom?

But I do have a view our of the window that faces the avenue that runs along our compound, and I do get to see some very interesting sights.
Enjoy the banter in the park when the monsoons allow.

That is provided that my evenings are as free as that one was!
I too wonder about people I used to see regularly but haven’t seen for a long while. Have they died? Have they moved? Are they now housebound? People must have been very pleased to know that their worst fears were not confirmed!

Or disappointed? That the fellow who should have gone is alive and kicking?
This has me wondering about park culture. We maintain a strict anonymity at our parks. Even if we recognize a regular, there seems to be a rule about not speaking.

By and large the transitory population in our community, younger and in rented accommodation is like that. It is us the old pioneers who have put down roots here and have put in some voluntary labour to develop the park that are friendly and even nosy.
It sounds as if you lifted some spirits and had a good time. Good for you!

Yes, that I did and mine was lifted too and I basked in all the attention that the DIL got!
Ah, it is so much more pleasurable to walk in the air and see life around rather than face the wall or the television on a stationary exerciser. Glad to know you are out and about.

Since then, I have been out of the house on some other chores and have thoroughly enjoyed those outings as well.
That’s amusing. You’re lucky you have a nearby park to visit to everyday. It’s good to be missed once in a while though. 🙂
you paint such a lovely word picture rummy.
I could see the park… the time of evening… everything fresh and damp from your monsoon season. and the joy of your friends seeing you alive! LOL.
and then returning home from your walk with dear manjiree … the little flower in your family now …. right before the shower started! i’d say … a little bit of heaven there! or should I say nirvana!

It is nice to know that people miss you when you are not around. Being alive is also a very nice experience.
