Welcome to the Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium where twelve of us write on the same topic. Today’s topic has been chosen by yours truly. The eleven other bloggers who write regularly are, in alphabetical order, Conrad, Delirious, gaelikaa, Grannymar, Magpie, Maria SF, ocdwriter, Padmum, Paul, Rohit and Will. Do drop in on their blogs and see what their take is on this week’s topic. Since some of them may post late, do give some allowance for that too!

“We are in the process of creating what deserves to be called the idiot culture. Not an idiot sub-culture, which every society has bubbling beneath the surface and which can provide harmless fun; but the culture itself. For the first time, the weird and the stupid and the coarse are becoming our cultural norm, even our cultural ideal.”
~ Carl Bernstein.

India is a democracy with universal adult suffrage. It is however now constrained to be a country of universal sufferage. Virtually every non politician/public sector employee is in acute suffering. Suffering from an epidemic of idiotitis. A culture of corruption, inefficiency and total disregard to the performance of duty.

From the time of the Conman Wealth Games and the Telecom scams, our executive is in coma and has done nothing to govern the country and the impressive growth that India had shown has slowed down and is beginning to cause alarm.

If the ruling alliance in the center is mired in scams and corruption allegations, the opposition by boycotting parliament is causing irreparable damage to the economy as policy making is suffering.

And we the idiot electorate keep repeatedly electing these worthies. As if the elected representatives are not enough to qualify, our elders too want to establish their credentials. Two senior Rajya Sabha members almost came to blows yesterday in the Upper House. Does reading this make it easier to accept my conclusion?

If this cannot be called the idiot culture, I do not know what could be.
