Every now and then a street vendor goes around hawking handmade toy violins on Indian streets playing catchy and popular tunes to entice unsuspecting buyers. Earlier this morning, one such vendor went by our home playing one of my favourite Hindi film songs.
Unsuspecting because, while he will play quite well any piece that you will select, you bring it home and try to play on it you simply will not be able to and inevitably the piece simply gets thrown away. I speak from personal experience.
Here are two such vendors showing off their skills.
I left a comment earlier, but it isn’t here. ????
I can’t find it in my spam or anyother box!
This is a nice, funny story and they both play really skilfully. I can not judge how well they keep the tune, but to me it was impressive.
Hours of practice I guess.
amazing!
proof that if the talent is there it doesn’t matter how it’s presented.
kind of like the ‘native american’ flutes you can buy here. such hauntingly beautiful sounds and music. and then you play yours. and NOT! 🙂

Native Amreican violins also exist! I found them when I went looking for images for the Indian version.
Is that because most buyers simply haven’t developed their skillls which takes time, practice and talent, or is it because of the quality of materials plus the construction of the instruments?

A combination of all the factors that you list. The vendors must have practiced for hours on these flimsy things.
LOL – probably the one they are playing on it more real than the ones they sell…
No Cathy, I have tried by buying the ones that they use and tried without any success whatsoever.
