That is the notice that I received after I had received a parcel from Amazon India. On checking back on some other orders, I found that this was the second time that a parcel had been delivered to me by India Posts.
I think that this is a remarkable innovation from a Government Department which had lost the parcel and speed post business to couriers. On investigating on the web for how this came about, I found this article which gives a detailed analysis of what is happening.
I am impressed.
ours is carried by Hermes, “your handle partner along the delivery chain.”
and not the much touted DHL paket service of the German post. I truly love watching the pictures of where the packet is now.

Frankly, I am quite impressed with the initiative because it is so unlike a government department to innovate like this.
oh my gosh.
i can’t imagine those guys carrying parcels like that for miles on a bicycle!
our postal service is having all kinds of financial difficulties and has for years. they keep threatening to disband it and have it change to totally free enterprise… which i think would be a real nightmare.

It is the threat of closing down the department because of its huge costs that this innovation has taken place here and I am quite impressed. India needs its postal service because of its villages.
our postal service has had a fair share of issues, including the many courier companies operating for all kinds of reasons. postal service delivery of letters have so declined, especially since on-line e-invoices etc that in the Auckland region there are only about 2-3 day deliveries made to your letter box…probably happening country wide as well
some the package deliveries are very odd as well…from postal service but also the courier companies…
The courier companies here do a very good job too. Very unwieldy parcels too get delivered efficiently.
Hey Rummy,
It’s impressive indeed. Congrats to India Post.
Cheers
