Welcome back to the Friday 2 on 1 blog posts where Shackman and I write on the same topic. There was a break for a few weeks while Shackman went off for a reunion and he is now settled and raring to go at it again. So am I.
I am one of those highly disciplined fellows who is always ready to go. There is always a set of washed and ironed clothes in the wardrobe, simply waiting to be worn to go out as are a pair of polished shoes. My chest of drawers contains all the essentials that I need to carry with me when I go out like my wallet with my club /credit and identity cards plus of course enough money to meet any emergencies.
My cell phone is always charged and ready to go without charging for a few hours. I am also usually well fed and will be able to manage without food for a few hours.
Sounds creepy and unnatural? That is because I was a travelling salesman all my life and had a packed suit case ready to take with me on emergency trips. Those years of such living has to leave its imprint on one’s personality what?
I am also a sort of planner. For instance, if I know that I have to go to meet somebody, I will arrange for the gift/s to be ready well before it is time to leave and those packages are kept along with my walking stick so that I do not forget to take them. Any number of such tricks have been ingrained over years and so I can claim to be one who is always Ready To Go.
Do please visit Shackman’s blog to see what he has to say on the subject.
sometimes planning is a big part of the fun.
but as to staying prepared… with suitcase packed… I can’t say as I do.
although the years and years of moving constantly has affected the way I keep house and my minimalist ways. with always the thought in the back of my head that it will be easy for me. not quite the same… still like you say definitely imprinted!
I am no longer in the ready packed suitcase stage but, health permitting can be off like a rocket at need.
I am a compulsive list maker as I need to know what to do before a trip or weekend or time away. But suitcase at the ready? No. Not quite that far. having said that my suitcase holds all the stuff I need for packing and I rarely if ever, forget anything. As to gifts I always have a tiny stockpile for unplanned for occasions, recycled or bought at thrift or on sale.

The only thing that is still ready to go in my suitcase is my toilet kit bag and a pair of flip flop slippers. Otherwise, if I have to pack now, it will take a few minutes only as my choice of clothes for daily wear has been our native dress of white top and bottoms for years now.
For me it depends…right now I’m away traveling, so I’m basically ready to go… tomorrow I have to get up early with a packed lunch, that’s all ready; as an easy breakfast….it won’t be an onerous sort of day, either as I will be dropped back afterwards…
The next is traveling but not until afternoon…so plenty of time to get packed up
While travelling one is indeed ready to move but, when at home to be able to get away at short notice is an art!
Hi Rummy,
I am also always ready to go: I always keep a suitcase ready in case I am called to travel. It’s part of the job. Having said this, I am not surprised that you are that organised and ready :). I know people who are incapable of being this way and every time they have to travel it’s a mess: they can’t even pack…
Cheers

This is a new side to your that I did not know about. I am glad that we share another trait.
I am always ready to go but will have to do five things on the way out and come back from the car at least twice. Such organization as you described is far outside of my ken. I have not had a day such as yours in all my 77 years.
We are simply different! My son and daughter in love are like you too.
Vive l’difference!
