Schedules.

Welcome to the Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium where Ashok, Conrad, Delirious, gaelikaa, Grannymar and I write on the same topic. Please do visit the linked blogs to get five different flavours of the same topic. Today’s topic has been chosen by gaelikaa.

A new blogger Delirious has joined us in our weekly LBC tryst with blogging and I welcome her and look forward to some inspiring/entertaining posts from her.

My involvement with schedules started in school. They were however called Time Tables.

All the notebooks that we used, called exercise books, had such a grid printed on the back cover to enable the students to fill in. Such a systematic way of organizing one’s time, and decision making about home work and what books to carry to school became an invaluable tool in later life. I have used many variations of this grid throughout my life and continue to do so even today.

That I use them has been implied in my post on obsessions. I hope that this makes this post too as interesting for comments and responses as the earlier one!

The two entries in those schedules that all of us students looked forward to were the lunch break and games period.

With the aging process, the next involvement was with railway schedules. I knew most of the important trains schedules as my livelihood depended on them.

I grew out of the railways phase and it was the turn of the Indian Airlines schedules which were more often than not, observed in the breach. There were many missed opportunities and meetings thanks to that wonderful public sector nuisance. When private operators were allowed, the situation improved a lot but I had to depend on a number of different schedules to satisfy my obsession for punctuality.

Finally I was relived from the tyranny of such schedules on retirement. Not for long though. Now there are other non written schedules for running the house efficiently and to meet the weekly LBC schedules.

I don’t mind preparing and following schedules. I however find it irritating when they are called skedules by parvenus.

PS. I HAVE GREAT PLEASURE IN WELCOMING ANOTHER MEMBER TO THE LBC. MY SISTER PADMINI HAS BEEN ROPED IN BY GRANNYMAR AND CONRAD WITHOUT MY HAVING THE SLIGHTEST CLUE ABOUT THE BEHIND THE SCENES NEGOTIATIONS. PLEASE DO VISIT HER BLOG TOO Padmum’s Pen TO GET TO KNOW HER BLOGGING SKILLS.
