What Truly Shocks You?

In today’s context, what truly shocks me is the behaviour of covidiots. I wrote this three weeks ago. When I started writing this post on June 1, 2021, the morning newspaper carried this news item which got my goat up alright. This is shocking because, it is not only dangerous for themselves but, also for other unsuspecting people who may come in touch with them.

What other things shock me in general are callous children abandoning their aged parent/s. I know of two cases where the children are quite well off but, have evicted their parent/s from their homes. Whatever may be the inside story, abandoning them without taking appropriate action for their safety and well being like perhaps housing them in one of the many homes for seniors that dot the landscape is truly appalling.

Another truly shocking thing for me is when I hear about people abandoning their pets on the roads. I simply cannot understand this behaviour.

There are a number of other minor things that shock me but the above three TRULY shock me.

Nothing like this, I hope happens to shock me!

This is my take on this week’s Friday 3 On 1 blog posts where Sanjana, Shackman and I write on the same topic. Today’s topic has been suggested by Shackman. Please do go over to the other two blogs to see what they have to say on the same topic. Thank you.

  1. Boy do I agree with you about the mistreatment of pets – I’m glad you pointed it out. It seems we are in a very precarious state wherein evil is possibly winning over good and common sense. Frankly, that scares me. I am stunned by the general lack of humanity we see these days.

  2. I feel more sad, disappointed and disillusioned about the “covidiots” than shocked. The truly shocking images and stories of the last year of COVID has left me quite bemused about these idiots. Unfortunately, here a significant percentage of them are Trumpists, adherents of our previous Head of State who think that the election was stolen from him—it wasn’t. Sadly, there a quite a few people that I know who fell down Trump’s rabbit-hole—and many of them refused to mask and refuse to get vaccinated.

  3. I hear you Ramana, pets abandoned make me weep – such helplessness and trust in their owners and then confusion as to the cruelty that leave them on roads and fields far from home.

Abandoning seniors is terrible. I will never understand a child turning its back on parents. As you know it’s happened to me.

And Covidiots are amongst us. Selfish creatures who would probably abandon their parents and their animals.

  4. What truly shocks me is the number of people whose lives are an endless struggle – awful jobs, awful housing, never enough money, maybe victims of domestic violence. And governments never do enough to help them, quite often blaming them for the predicament they’ve landed in.
